No. 17 Women's Lacrosse Falls in 2OT at No. 9 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – For the second time in three days, the Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell to a nationally-ranked team in double overtime, this time in the form of No. 9 Adelphi University 10-9 Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Score: Adelphi University 10, Assumption University 9 – 2OT
Records: Greyhounds (4-3, 1-2 NE10), Panthers (4-2, 2-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening quarter was proving to be a defensive battle, as Adelphi was intercepting Greyhound passes and Adelphi's shots were forcing saves out of Skylar Troyan. The Greyhounds finally broke the deadlock with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter through Jenna Joseph, who netted her 14th on the season.

The Panthers made sure to respond quickly right out of the second quarter, as Kerrin Heuser capitalized off the Assumption turnover to tie things up less than three minutes into the period. Adelphi would strike again at the 10:38 mark, as Kristina Kallansrude gave the home side a 2-1 lead. It was a tight battle for about five minutes until Assumption was able to equalize through Olivia Catanzarite, who netted her 20th goal of the season already. She wasn't done and scored number 21 just 1:59 later to give Assumption a lead again. Catanzarite added another with 20 seconds left for a first half hat trick, but Adelphi was able to squeeze in another just before halftime, giving Assumption a 4-3 lead at the break.

Adelphi were the first to strike in the second half, tying the game yet again through Tamia Lawson. The Greyhounds responded by turning defense into offense, as Isabelle Edwards finished off the move with her second goal on the season with 5:44 remaining in the quarter, Assumption up 5-4. The visitors tacked on two more and conceded one in the rest of the third to hold a two-goal advantage going into the last 15 minutes of action.

The two NE10 teams would exchange back-and-forth goals in the opening stages of the fourth quarter which was quickly followed by another goal from Catanzarite, which gave the Hounds more breathing room up three with 6:32 to go. With four minutes to go, the home side called a timeout as they were running out of time to try and time up this game. The timeout proved to be worth it, as the Panthers scored two goals in 29 seconds to cut the deficit to one. With only 40 seconds remaining on the clock, Adelphi tied it up and sent it to overtime for the second consecutive overtime game for Assumption against an NE10 opponent.

After a tight first four minutes of pressure from both sides, Adelphi pulled off the improbable comeback with a game-winning goal from Kallansrude in overtime.
