COLCHESTER, VT. – The Assumption University softball team closed out the regular season with hot bats, as the Greyhounds scored 28 runs in their Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader sweep of Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption University 16, Saint Michael's College 9
The Hounds were all over Saint Michael's in game one, scoring 14 runs in the first four innings. It started with a
Corin Mahan triple in the first inning, scoring
Jordan Dwyer, and then the floodgates opened. It was a successful day at the plate for Assumption through the fielder's choices, wild pitches, and more solid hitting from Dwyer,
Kali Scirocco, and
Lauren Geremia. However, the Purple Knights still scored nine runs in the third and fourth inning, scoring 14-9 after four.
Mackenzie Bruggemann singled to left in the fifth, scoring
Kaitlyn Cahill, and Mahan got another RBI in the sixth to score
Summer Sheerin, which gave the visitors more breathing room. The Hounds would hold off the home team at the plate and take game one 16-9. It was the most runs Assumption have scored in one game this season.
Anna Tassone got the start for Assumption. She went 3.2 innings while allowing five hits and two runs. She also had one walk and one strikeout.
GAME TWO – Assumption University 12, Saint Michael's College 7
Lauren Geremia opened up the scoring in the top of the third, as she drove a single into right field for an RBI as Sheerin came home and gave the Hounds another early lead in this doubleheader. The Purple Knights responded in the bottom third with back-to-back hits into the outfield to go up 2-1. It took a couple of innings for a reaction from the Greyhounds, but eventually, they responded with
Jaiden Tonucci hitting a sacrifice fly and Geremia reaching on a fielder's choice. Both those plays allowed Cahill and Reagan Gregoire to score and tie it up for the Hounds at 3-3. Saint Michael's added two in the bottom of the fifth with a hard-hit double to left center and a wild pitch. It came down to the seventh inning for the Greyhounds to try and help push themselves into a playoff position. Abby Larson started the rally with Sheerin, who both scored on a Dwyer sacrifice pop fly. Mahan continued her strong day by singling to right field, scoring Geremia. Lastly, Bruggeman singled up the middle to score
Alyssa Johnson, pushing Assumption into a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
The Purple Knights would tie it up and push the game to extra innings, but then the Greyhounds exploded in the top of the eighth. Sheerin smacked a double down the left-field line, scoring Tonucci and
Heather Junjulas. Sheerin eventually came home after Dwyer singled her in, which gave the Hounds a 10-7 lead in extra innings. Assumption added two more through Cahill as she singled to left, allowing Geremia and Dwyer to score on a fielding error. The Purple Knights could not respond in the bottom of the eighth, and Assumption picked up the sweep in Colchester, winning game two 12-7.
Kaelin Waldron pitched 3.0 innings while giving up five hits and three earned runs.
Anna Tassone pitched 5.0 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.
