Assumption Athletic Department Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University Department of Athletics announced the eight individuals that will be inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame, Class of 2023, on Friday, October 20th, in Tsotsis Ballroom.

Stephen Ferraro '92 (Men's Ice Hockey), Gabrielle Gibson '13 (Women's Basketball), Monique Haney '14 (Women's Swimming), Matt Hoffman '05 (Men's Lacrosse), Jennifer Lowrey '12 (Softball), Matt Sidebottom '11 (posthumously - Football), Neil Stafford (Women's Soccer Coach), and Paige Radomski '16 (Women's Soccer) will be enshrined.
 
Assumption will also be honoring Charde Floyd '08 and Julie Morancy '00, who were inducted in 2021 but were unable to attend the ceremony.
 
"I would like to congratulate Gabby, Jen, Matt, Monique, Neil, Paige, Steve, and the Sidebottom Family, on the class's recent selection into our Assumption University Athletics Hall of Fame," stated Assumption Director of Athletics Eric Gobiel. "They are all extremely deserving of this honor, and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome them as inductees for the class of 2023."
 
"Their accomplishments speak for themselves, and they each had tremendously impactful and outstanding careers. As members of our athletic teams, they each achieved greatness on and off the playing surfaces, were incredible teammates, and truly epitomized what it means to be a Greyhound!"
 

Stephen Ferraro '92 – Men's Ice Hockey 
Ferraro had an immediate impact upon his arrival at Assumption. He scored 18 goals in his freshman campaign and provided 19 assists for 37 points, an incredible achievement in his rookie season. That same year he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week and the Wesleyan Spurrier Tournament Most Valuable Player. In his sophomore season, he was named to the Northeast-10 Invitational All-Tournament Team; he scored 22 goals along with nine assists for 31 points. In the 1990-91 campaign, Ferraro provided 22 assists for his team while also recording ten goals for 32 points. He was featured in the Boston Globe following a big playoff win vs. Curry College. Ferraro was known for scoring "big goals in big games at big times."
 
In his fourth and final season as a Greyhound, he was appointed co-captain by Coach Bill Bowes. He scored 22 goals and 22 assists in his final season for a remarkable 44 points. Ferraro was top three on the team in goals and assists in three out of his four seasons at Assumption. He is fourth in career goals scored in Assumption history (72) and ninth in career points (144). 
 
 
Gabrielle Gibson '13 – Women's Basketball
During her athletic career at Assumption, Gibson was a standout basketball player for Head Coach Kerry Phayre and the Greyhounds' program. In her freshman season of 2009-10, Gibson was awarded the Northeast-10 Freshman/Rookie of the Year and a spot on the All-Rookie Team. The following season, she was awarded the Andrew Laska "Athlete of the Year" Award. In 2011-12 Gibson earned a spot on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team. Her senior year was her most emphatic as a Greyhound as she helped lead them to a Northeast-10 Championship appearance. She was named to the Northeast-10 All-Championship Team and the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team. 
 
In terms of her statistics, it's some of the most impressive in Hounds basketball history. She is second all-time in program history with 1,627 points. Gibson has the fifth most points scored in a season with 533 points which was done in the 2012-13 season. She has the tenth-highest single-season scoring average with 17.8 points per game. She ranks sixth in career scoring average (14.3ppg), second in career field goals made (583), fourth in career three-point field goals made (176), ninth in career games played (114), tenth in career steals (214), and 12th in career minutes (3,007). Lastly, she had four career 30-point games. She led the team to 77 wins as well as the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Conference Championship game while also reaching the NCAA Regionals twice.
 
 
Monique Haney '14 – Women's Swimming
Haney, a standout swimmer for Assumption from Rialto, California, made her mark in multiple events throughout her four years. As a freshman, Haney was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year and earned the Assumption Female Freshman Athlete of the Year award. During her rookie campaign, she owned the individual school records in the 100 freestyle (54.65), the 200 freestyle (1:56.66), the 1000 freestyle (10:40.00), the 1650 freestyle (18:26.97), and the 500 freestyle (5:04.83), which was first place in the Northeast-10 Championship. In her sophomore season, Haney finished second at the NE10 Championships in the 400 IM (4:36.68) and third in the 200 fly (2:08.87).
 
Haney earned the Andrew Laska "Athlete of the Year" Award following her junior year, where she won the Northeast-10 Championship in the 500 freestyle (5:06.44) and the 200 fly (2:06.25). As a senior, Haney won the 200 fly (2:06.87), 400 IM (4:32.89), and the 500 free (5:07.59) at the conference championships and was rewarded with her second consecutive Andrew Laska "Athlete of the Year" Award while also winning the Steve "Merc" Morris '72 Memorial Award as a Top Four-Year Assumption College Student-Athlete.
 
Haney becomes the first Assumption swimmer to be enshrined in the University's Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
 
Matt Hoffman '05 – Men's Lacrosse
During his career, Hoffman set records and proved to be one of the greatest lacrosse goalies in the school's history. Serving as team captain and student leader for three years from 2003-2005, his program record of 914 saves ranks third all-time in NCAA Division II history while also ranking second in the Northeast-10 Conference. He was also named team MVP three times (2002-04).
 
His 257 saves during the 2004 season rank him second in program history while sitting fourth in NE10 Conference history, and 19th in NCAA Division II history.  Following his senior season, he was named to the Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference. Over his career, Hoffman played in a program-record 55 games for 3,229 minutes (ranks 11th in NCAA Division II History), 16.62 saves per game (7th nationally), with a .580 save percentage, an 11.95 goals-against average, and ranks third in career wins (15). During his senior season, he led the Greyhounds to their first-ever win over a top-10 opponent in the form of No. 9 Pace University. Hoffman recorded 19 saves in the 9-4 upset win over the Setters.
 
 
Jennifer Lowrey '12 - Softball
Lowrey, one of the most dominant pitchers to toe the rubber in Assumption softball program history. In her freshman season, she was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team. She appeared in 24 games with 19 starts, pitching 11 complete games while posting four shutouts and one save. In 124.2 innings of action, she allowed 104 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 131 batters. Lowrey improved in her sophomore season, as she was named to the NE10 Second Team All-Conference. She increased her strikeout total, striking out 157 batters while posting a 15-8 record.
 
As a junior in 2011, Lowrey was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team, where she logged 133 innings, going 13-8 and allowing 44 earned runs. She struck out an outstanding 179 batters and maintained an ERA of 2.32. During this season, Lowrey stacked up five double-digit strikeout games, including a career-high 16 strikeouts at Stonehill.
 
During her senior campaign, she started 27 games and had 26 complete games with five shutouts. With an 18-10 record and a 1.82 ERA, she allowed 48 earned runs and struck out 246 batters, which is the second-highest single-season total in program history. Additionally, she posted 13 double-digit strikeout games. In the Greyhounds postseason run, she recorded 42.0 innings with 60 strikeouts and supported a 2.67 ERA in seven games, which resulted in the program's third conference title and their second NCAA appearance.
 
Lowrey's senior season was full of accolades, and accomplishments, which included Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year, Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team, Daktronics Second Team-All Region, the Andrew Laska "Athlete of the Year" Award, and the Rev. Armand Desautels Memorial Award. Lowrey's stats still hold up to today's game, as she still ranks in the top five in program history in the following categories: career shutouts (1st – 19), career strikeouts (1st – 713), complete games in a season(2nd – 26), strikeouts in a season (2nd – 246), career wins (3rd – 56), career innings pitched (3rd – 589.1), career complete games (4th – 68), wins in a season(4th – 18), and innings pitched in a season (5th – 184.1).
 
 
Matt Sidebottom '11 – Football
At Assumption, Sidebottom left his mark as a player, coach, and captain. He earned a plethora of achievements throughout his collegiate playing career. Sidebottom was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team in 2008 before being named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team and Worcester Area First Team All-Star following his junior campaign. He also achieved in the classroom, being named to the Assumption Student-Athlete Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010. He followed up his 2009 athletic achievements by being named to the Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection, as well as the 2010 Northeast-10 Offensive Lineman of the Year before being named to the Super Region One Second Team. For his career, he appeared in 28 games (19 starts), with three rushes for 11 yards, one touchdown, and four tackles, which is unique for an offensive lineman.
 
Upon graduating, Sidebottom helped coach the Greyhounds for three years. He worked with the running backs and tight ends in 2011 and 2012 before moving to the offensive line in 2013 while also serving as the Hounds' strength and conditioning coordinator until 2014.
 
 
Neil Stafford – Women's Soccer Coach
During his tenure at Assumption, Stafford was one of the most successful and impactful coaches in the women's soccer program history. He served as the Women's Associate Head Coach in 2000 before being elevated to the Head Coach from 2001-2008. During his time leading the program, he posted an impressive 72-61-15 record overall which made him the winningest coach in the women's soccer program history. In 2004, Stafford was named the Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year and guided the Hounds to their first NE10 Conference Final, NCAA Division II Tournament berth, and NCAA Regional Final appearance. The team finished 14th in the nation with a final record of 15-6, which included a seven-game win streak from Sept. 29th to Oct. 17th, which were all shutouts.
 
In 2005. The Greyhounds secured another NCAA Tournament appearance finishing 15-4-4 and returned to the NCAA Regional Finals. Between the 2004/05 seasons, the Hounds went unbeaten in 15 regular season games. They posted a nine-game win streak from Sept. 1, 2005, to Sept. 29, 2005, and went four more games without a loss all the way until Oct. 15, 2005.
 
After leaving the Assumption program, Stafford continued to have coaching success. He had stops at both Central Michigan (30-10-4) and the University of Cincinnati (79-76-25).
 
 
Paige Radomski '16 – Women's Soccer
In her first two years at Assumption, Radomski appeared in 34 games (22 starts), where she combined for six goals, three assists, and 15 points, before having impressive junior and senior seasons. In 2014, Radomski was named the NE10 Player of the Year, making Second Team All-American and All-East Region First Team. She recorded a team-leading 15 goals and 33 points while adding three assists to her stat line. During her junior season, the Greyhounds had a 15-5-1 record while going 12-2 in conference play. They picked up a seven-game win streak in the middle of that season, as well as ending the regular season on a six-game unbeaten run to clinch the NE10 regular season title for the first time in program history. Radomski scored the go-ahead goal in the Northeast-10 Championship Semifinals, where the Hounds won 2-1 against Franklin Pierce University.
 
In 2015, Radomski recorded nine goals and had nine assists, and was tied for the most points on the team with 27. She led the Greyhounds to a 10-8-1 record while going 8-6 in NE10 action and earning a sixth seed in the conference tournament. Assumption went on to win their quarterfinals matchup at American International, where Radomski scored in the penalty shootout to help secure the upset win.
 
Radomski ranks eighth in program history in career goals (30), ninth in points (75), and eighth in shots on goal (148). She also came up clutch during her time in Worcester, as she was 2-for-2 on penalty kicks and scored 11 game-winning goals, with seven coming her junior season.
