WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's soccer team dropped their season opener, as they fell to Caldwell University 2-0 at Normand R. Marois '57 Field Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the early portion of the contest, but Caldwell flipped the script after ten minutes. In the 25
th minute, Israel Dos Santos Neto flicked in a header off of a Murilo DeOliveira corner kick. With just under ten minutes remaining in the first half, Dos Santo Neto volleyed the ball into the middle of the pitch to find the foot of Andre Vieira, who drove a low shot into the right corner of the cage, making it 2-0 Cougars. The visitors would carry their 2-0 advantage into halftime, as they outshot the Greyhounds 8-6 and had all four corner kicks.
The Blue and White came out of the half on the attack, as they fired the first nine shots within 11 minutes. Assumption continued to apply the pressure, but they were awarded their first corner kick in the 75
th minute. The Greyhounds had a late chance but were unable to capitalize and fell 2-0 to Caldwell.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Iver Sjåvåg recorded nine saves in his collegiate debut for the hosts.
- Assumption outshot Caldwell 28-18, while both sides fired 11 on goal.
- Caldwell now leads the all-time series 2-1, with their only other win coming in 2008.
