Men's Basketball edges Franklin Pierce, 79-78 on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – Kani Glover knocked down a pair of free throws with 1.2 showing on the game clock to secure a 79-78 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started hot, with Cooper Creek and Kani Glover knocking down threes. Ever since that point, the Ravens caught fire. Franklin Pierce ripped off a 22-5 run to open up the game, capitalized by a Dwayne Robinson O'Hagan layup for two. The Hounds were trailing by double digits for most of the first half; however, they slowly started to chip away at the lead through Alex Carlisle, who would start contributing to one of his best performances of the season. Kasey Draper got it down to four with a three-ball with four minutes to go, but the Ravens could convert on the offensive end until the break. At halftime, the Ravens led 39-31.
 
Assumption ripped off an 8-2 run to open up the second half as Carlisle and Draper nailed back-to-back three-pointers, leading to a full timeout by the Ravens. Since the timeout, Franklin Pierce established a better offensive flow, leading by eight 63-55 with 10:10 to go in the game. After a solid run to get the lead down to one, Carlisle had a chance to tie it with a free throw. After a miss, Stewart secured the offensive rebound and put it up for two, giving the Hounds a 71-70 lead. It would be end-to-end action for the remaining five minutes as both sides were going for it. Ja'Keese Kemp knocked down a jumper at 1:26 to give Franklin Pierce a 78-77 lead. However, the Hounds had plenty of time to answer. After two misses from Glover and Stewart, Pierce Prendergast was fouled and had a chance to make it a three-point game. After missing the free throw, Assumption had another opportunity to go for the win. After securing the offensive rebound on a miss and getting fouled, Glover knocked down a pair of free throws with one second to secure the comeback victory on senior day, at a final score of 79-78.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Alex Carlisle led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
  • Kani Glover notched his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Assumption outrebounded Franklin Pierce 45-37m while the Ravens outscored the hosts 34-20 in the paint.
  • Franklin Pierce now leads the all-time series 29-14.
