WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 22 nationally ranked Assumption University women's lacrosse opened the 2024 campaign with a 17-6 non-conference win over Franklin Pierce University Tuesday afternoon at Brian Kelly Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started fast, as
Molly Weiand scored the first goal 35 seconds into the first quarter. The Greyhounds' lead would grow over the next few minutes, as
Olivia Catanzarite and Weiand netted the following few goals to make it 4-0 eight minutes in. After Franklin Pierce got on the board at the 8:25 marker of the first quarter, Assumption capped off the frame on a 3-1 run, making it 7-2 after 15 minutes.
In the second quarter, it was all Greyhounds, as they outscored the Ravens 6-0 in the frame and began the running clock following Weiand's free-position goal at 5:18. The hosts continued their dominance with a three-goal third quarter, but Franklin Pierce would add one tally, making it 16-3 through three quarters.
Caitlyn Reilly scored her first goal of the year in the fourth quarter, but the Ravens would close the gap following a three-goal outburst, making it a 17-6 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Skylar Troyan and Healey Torres combined for seven saves for the Greyhounds.
- Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 35-19 while winning the groundball battle (22-13).
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 20-7.
