TAMPA, Fla. – The Assumption University softball team closed their Spring Break trip to Florida on Wednesday after dropping both halves of their twin bill to No. 10 Tampa University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – No. 10 Tampa University 9, Assumption University 3
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when
Heather Junjulas hit a bases-clearing double to center field, making it 3-0 Assumption. The Spartans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth, but only two were earned.
Paige Cote got the start and went 4.0 scoreless innings while allowing three hits.
GAME TWO – No. 10 Tampa University 5, Assumption University 2
Tampa started fast, striking for three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Kaelin Waldron and Mary Beth Feldman settled on the pitching rubber and silenced the opposing bats. The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the fourth and loaded the bases, but
Lexi Thompson came in and slammed the door shut to extinguish the threat.
The Greyhounds entered the top of the sixth inning without a base runner, but
Corin Mahan recorded a pinch-hit single through the left side, ending Feldman's perfect game attempt. The Spartans added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-0.
In the top of the seventh, the Greyhounds loaded the bases with no out-in-the-frame.
Alyssa Johnson drove in Cahill with a sacrifice fly to right field, and
Emma Bloom's flair single, plated
Grace Heim, but they could not finish off the comeback.
