McCown leads the way, as No. 16 Men's Basketball bests Queens College, 104-91

WORCESTER, Mass. —The No. 16 nationally ranked Assumption University men's basketball team pulled away in the second half, as the Greyhounds bested Queens College 104-91 in non-conference action, Sunday afternoon at Andrew Laska Gymnasium 
 
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Queens College started fast, scoring the first five points of the contest. The two teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, but with Assumption leading 17-15, the Hounds would go on an 8-2 run just under two minutes to go up 25-17. The Knights would trim the lead to just three points (29-26), but the Blue and White would go on a 13-2 run, which had five players score to go up 42-28 with 6:31 left in the first half. The two teams exchanged points for the remainder of the opening frame and would trim the deficit to 12 points (59-47) heading into the break. 
 
Coming out of the second half, Zee McCown led the charge by the Greyhounds, as he scored six points in the first six minutes of the stanza, pushing the Assumption advantage to 76-58. Queens answered with a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to cut the 18-point deficit down to a six-point one (80-74) with 9:25 to go. The Hounds' defense swarmed the Knights, forcing seven turnovers over the final 8:07, and it was McCown on the offensive end, as they secured a 104-91 home win. 

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Zee McCown poured in a career-high 27 points, while adding nine assists and four steals. 
  • Daouda Dembele scored 22 points, while Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton (160, Noah Payne (13), and Lenny Tangishaka (12) also registered double-digit points. 
  • The Assumption defense forced 24 turnovers, while recording 17 steals, led by McCown and Tangishaka with four apiece. 
  • The Greyhounds won the rebounding battle (39-37), while outscoring the opposition 58-52. 
  • In all six games this season, the Assumption defense has forced 20+ turnovers and recorded 16+ steals in every game but one. 
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 6-1.
