WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team swept the Northeast 10 Conference Player of the Week honors, while
Madison Handrahan took home the NE10 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week
Leo Piandes, Assumption
Junior | Forward | North Reading, Mass.
Piandes had a huge performance against Salve Regina on Saturday. He scored his first collegiate hat trick, as he scored all of the goals for Assumption. Piandes' three-goal performance is the first Assumption hat-trick since
Ronny Paragallo had a trio on January 3, 2024, at Wentworth.
Men's Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week
Callum Welch, Assumption
Senior | Forward | North Reading, Mass.
Welch logged 60 saves against undefeated Salve Regina on Saturday. He logged the most saves in a single game in the Northeast 10 since Collin Berke had 72 in the 2024 NE10 Championship game.
Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week
Jake Russell, Assumption
Freshman | Forward | Arlington, Mass.
Russell totaled two assists in two games for Assumption, while also winning 65.7 percent of his faceoffs. At UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, he had an assist and a blocked shot while winning 11-of-17 faceoffs. Russell capped off the week with another assist while also winning 12-of-18 battles at the dot at undefeated Salve Regina.
Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Madison Handrahan, Assumption
Freshman | Guard | Glastonbury, Conn.
Handrahan averaged 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steals for the Greyhounds this week. After a one-point, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal against AIC, she had a career day against Mercy on Sunday. Against the Mavericks, she poured in a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, while adding six rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
