Women's Lacrosse tops Saint Michael's College on Senior Day, 16-5

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's lacrosse team used a complete team effort as the Greyhounds earned a 16-5 Northeast-10 Conference win against Saint Michael's College on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Johnston got the scoring started for Assumption, as she scored 43 seconds into the game before her sister Katelynn Johnston scored 20 seconds later. The Greyhounds continued to add to their lead as Kyle Johnston, Chloe Scornavacca, and Morgan Boldud found the back of the cage, making it 5-0 after the opening 15 minutes. 
 
Katelynn Johnston struck twice to open the second quarter before Saint Michael's got on the board with three straight tallies before Margaret Loeber halted the run with a free-position shot. The Hounds would maintain an 8-3 lead into halftime, where the hosts would outshoot the guests 20-13. 
 
Molly Weiand started the second half with an unassisted goal before Sophia Lynch responded for the Purple Knights. Weiand's second goal kick-started a 7-0 run to pull away, with the Greyhounds seeing goals from Loebar, Aleigh Thompson, Katelynn Johnston, and Emily Abendroth. Saint Michael's added one final goal to close the game at 16-5. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Healey Torres and Skylar Troyan logged a combined ten saves in the cage. 
  • Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 35-20
  • The Greyhounds won 15-of-20 draw controls, with Margaret Rhind leading the way with five. 
  • The Blue and White senior class combined for eight goals, three assists, 12 ground balls, and five caused turnovers. 
  • Assumption still leads the all-time series 17-12.
