HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption came out aggressively in the opening minutes, with
Cody Holbert recording the game's first shot before
Evan Conceicao struck the crossbar in the 10th minute. Just 15 seconds later,
Ryan Linhares put a shot on target, but American International goalkeeper Javier Sola Martinez saved it. The Greyhounds kept generating chances, with Holbert and Conceicao combining for five first-half shots.
Federico Foganio made three saves in the first half to keep the contest scoreless at halftime.
The Greyhounds carried their offensive pressure into the second half, as Holbert forced two saves in the 53rd and 54th minutes. Conceicao followed with another shot on goal in the 60th minute, but Sola Martinez turned away the attempt to preserve the scoreless tie.
American International increased its pressure midway through the second half, generating several scoring opportunities and earning nine corner kicks in the final 45 minutes. Foganio stood tall in net, making consecutive saves in the 75th and 76th minutes to keep the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard.
Assumption nearly broke through in the closing minutes, as Holbert forced another save in the 88th minute before
Evan Fletcher sent a shot wide. Foganio made one final stop in the 89th minute to secure the 0-0 draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Federico Foganio recorded seven saves in the clean sheet.
- AIC outshot Assumption 18-12, while the hosts led 7-5 on shots on goal.
- The Yellow Jackets had ten corners to just six for the Hounds, while the Blue and Yellow were called offsides seven times to just two for Assumption.
- The all-time series is still tied at 24-24-9.
