WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell in their season opener to Mercy University, 13-11 in non-conference action, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Aleigh Thompson started the scoring for Assumption, as she scored in the opening minute of the contest.
Kyle Johnston doubled the Greyhounds' lead before Mercy got on the board before the end of the first quarter.
Annie Ettenhofer and Johnston went back-to-back to push the Blue and White's advantage to 4-1, before two straight tallies from Kayden Meyer cut the deficit to one.
Emily Keefe made it 5-3 before the Mavericks closed out the first half on a 5-1 run to go up 8-6 at the break.
Coming out of the break, the visitors had a strong third quarter, outscoring the hosts 4-2 and extending their advantage to 12-8. After Andrea Mott made it 13-8 with the first tally of the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds would finish the game strong with goals from
Annika Pyy,
Mallory Bartlett, and
Jillian Gillis. The Hounds rally would come up short, as they would fall 13-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Madeleine Estes and Grace Cashman combined for seven saves in the loss.
- Kyle Johnston led the Hounds with three goals.
- Both sides fired 20 shots on target, while Assumption had the slight edge in draw controls (13-12).
- The Greyhounds were a perfect 4-for-4 on free position shots, while the Mavericks were 0-for-2.
- Mercy now leads the all-time series 6-5
