GARDEN CITY, N.Y.— The Assumption University men's basketball team had a poor shooting performance, as the Greyhounds fell to Adelphi University, 79-59 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption started strong, as they raced out to an 11-5 lead, as
Luke Michalski and
Myles Alcindor combined for seven. Adelphi responded with a 24-6 run to go up 29-17, as the Panthers shot 64.7 percent (11-for-17) over the run, while the defense held the Greyhounds just 17.6 percent (3-for-17) from the field. Assumption closed out the first half on a 14-9 run to trim the deficit down to eight points (38-30), as
Noah Payne poured in six points on the stretch.
Coming out of the intermission, the Panthers broke the game open with a 13-2 run, which extended the hosts' advantage to 18 points (51-33) five minutes in. Adelphi continued to see their lead grow, as they ballooned it to 20 (69-49) with 4:53 left in regulation. Assumption attempted a comeback, but could not make a dent in the deficit and would fall 79-59.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Noah Payne led the way for the Greyhounds, as he poured in 15 points, while also adding three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Baril Mawo was the only other Hound in double digits, with 11.
- Adelphi shot 57.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, while Assumption was held to 36.2 percent from the floor and 19.0 percent from long range.
- The Greyhounds had the slight edge on the boards (35-34), while the Panthers won the battle in the paint (42-36).
- This was the seventh time that Assumption was held under 40.0 percent from the floor. The Hounds are now 2-5 in those games.
- Adelphi leads the all-time series 15-13
