HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Assumption University 2, Pace University 1
Pace would get a few hits early on, but it would be Assumption that would get the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. After a lead-off walk and a steal of second by
Jaiden Tonucci,
Kaylee Lacomb used a bunt single to score Tonucci from second to go up 1-0.
The Setters threatened in the top of the fourth inning, as they got two runners in scoring position with no outs in the inning. The Hounds would cut two runners at home, including a failed double-steal attempt, and
Paige Cote and Assumption would get out of the jam unscathed.
Pace once again threatened at the top of the sixth, as they loaded the bases with just one out in the inning, but after a little chopper back to the pitcher and a pop out to second, Cote would escape another jam.
Assumption found an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, as
Emma Bloom drove in
Maddy Bland with a bunt single. Pace would eventually score in the top of the seventh, but that would be it, as the Greyhounds would take game one 2-1.
Paige Cote went the distance, allowing just one run, while striking out three.
Game Two Score: Assumption University 2, Pace University 0
Assumption was the first team to light up the scoreboard, as
Siena Nardelli scored on a
Molly Green suicide squeeze play in the bottom of the second inning. The Greyhounds got an insurance run in the third, as
Maddy Bland had a two-out triple to right field, before scoring on a
Kaitlyn Cahill single through the left side of the infield.
Pace only generated one hit and one base runner in the game. Riley Jenkins had the lone hit for the Setters but was thrown out at second while trying to advance.
Kaelin Waldron was nearly perfect in the circle for the Greyhounds, as she struck out five, issued one walk, and allowed just one hit with just 70 pitches for the win.
