RINDGE, N.H.—The Assumption University softball team scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings as they pulled away from Caldwell University, 7-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Softball East Regional, Friday afternoon at Melissa Bisaccia Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Caldwell was the first team to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as Maddie Matkosky hit a solo home run to left field. Assumption got their offense rolling in the top of the third inning as
Kaitlyn Cahill doubled to left field, before scoring on a
Maddy Bland sacrifice fly to left field.
The Greyhounds broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning as they plated three runs in the frame. Cahill reached on a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error.
Kaylee Lacomb drove in the senior outfielder with a bunt single before scoring later in the frame on a Bland base knock to right.
Bella Mara made it 4-1 with an RBI single to right, plating Bland on the play.
Assumption added three runs in the top of the seventh on three different wild pitches to stretch their lead to 7-1.
Kaelin Waldron went the distance in the pitching circle for the Greyhounds, as she struck out six while scattering six hits and allowing just one run.
