Women's Soccer Volunteers
at
"MAIN SOUTH CELEBRATES FESTIVAL"
The Assumption College women's soccer team
volunteered recently at the Main South Celebrates Festival
organized and sponsored by Main South Community Development
Corporation.
The festival demonstrated a collaboration
between all members of the Worcester community, including local
residents, business/property owners, non-profit organizations and
city officials.
The goal is to celebrate the many assets of the
Main South community and to provide a venue for neighbors to
unite. The area has much to celebrate these days: the
Kilby-Gardner-Hammond Project, green initiatives, and the rich
culture of its diverse community.
The festival highlighted the rich culture by
offering an array of diverse vendors and entertainment, while also
celebrating the neighborhood's commitment to Crystal/University
Park.
The soccer team helped during the festival with
two separate shifts of volunteers. They helped by face
painting, blowing up balloons, picking up trash, handing out water
and food, organizing the horse-drawn wagon ride, crowd control,
directing people to different areas, and the breakdown and
clean-up.
This festival allowed for our team to
experience a variety of cultures and open our eyes to a new area of
Worcester which we’ve never been integrated in. The
team enjoyed helping out, meeting new people and emerging
themselves in the community.
