Worcester, Mass. (December 12) -- The Assumption College
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) again held its Holiday
Food Drive this fall to help less-fortunate families in the holiday
season. The group collected food and Thanksgiving baskets during
Halloween and the Thanksgiving season.
This year, SAAC collected a record 1,814 pounds of food, which
was over 500 pounds more than last year. That food was donated to
the Worcester County Food Bank, while 25 Thanksgiving baskets were
again donated to Worcester’s Pernet Family Services.
“The 2014 Halloween food drive and Thanksgiving basket
initiative reached new levels of success this year thanks to the
tremendous leadership of our SAAC members and the collective hard
work and dedication to these projects from the entire
student-athlete population,” said Dan
Munsey, SAAC advisor and head men’s and
women’s tennis coach.
The Assumption SAAC is one of the most active in the
Northeast-10 Conference and performs a number of community services
projects during the year both on-campus and within the Worcester
community. Sophomore SAAC member Chris Waung, a
member of the men’s tennis team, was recently named to the
NCAA Division II National SAAC and will serve a three-year term
from 2015-2018.
“Once again, our student-athletes showed their commitment
to excellence in the community and I was very proud to see how much
their hard work and dedication was able to accomplish,” said
Munsey.
