Eric Gobiel enters his fifth year as the Director of Athletics at Assumption University. Gobiel's priorities will be to enhance the University's student-athlete experience, increase enrollment and fundraising, and encourage department-wide competitiveness.
Since arriving at Assumption University, Gobiel has guided the Greyhounds through one of the most successful four-year stretches in department history. Under his leadership, Assumption has captured 10 conference regular season championships, five conference postseason tournament titles, three NCAA Regional Championships—including Women's Basketball (2022-23), Men's Basketball (2024-25), and Softball (2025-26)—and has made 24 NCAA Championship appearances while producing 29 All-Americans. The Field Hockey program also advanced to the NCAA National Semifinals in consecutive seasons, highlighting the department's continued rise on the national stage. Along with the sustained competitive success, Gobiel has remained committed to fostering excellence in the classroom, enhancing the student-athlete experience, and elevating the profile of Assumption Athletics both regionally and nationally.
Gobiel previously served as the director of athletics at Nichols College, a position he has held since 2019. Some of his achievements included an $8 million renovation of the athletic field house, a $1.2 million resurfacing of the turf/track complex, and upgrades to the baseball and softball fields. In the past two years, he has raised $840,000 in support of the department and its student-athletes.
