Men's Ice Hockey

Ice Dogs Glide Past Nichols College, 5-1

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Nov. 11) – Assumption junior Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass./Austin Prep) netted the eventual game-winner and aided the first goal of the game as the Ice Dogs downed host Nichols 5-1 in a non-conference men's ice hockey matchup on Friday night at Levy Rink. With the win, Assumption improves to 2-3-0 while the Bison slip to 0-1-1 on the season.

Meehan and sophomore Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) found freshman Joe Arcieri (Newmarket, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas)who avoided traffic to place the puck in the top left corner of the net for the 1-0 Ice Dog lead at 9:51 in the first period.

Nichols senior Andrew Letellier evened things out quickly in the second frame. The forward carried the puck around the circle and flicked a wrist shot to the upper left corner at 1:13 for a power play goal. The visitors later pulled ahead once more on a power play of their own as Meehan found success at 5:03. Sophomore Mike Janson (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) took control following a faceoff and sent the pass to senior Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) who fed Meehan.

Just over two minutes after Meehan's marker, Mattiello bested the Nichols netminder as he took aim from the top of the right circle following a pass from rookie Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine/Brewster Academy).

In the third stanza Assumption added a pair of shorthanded goals. Sophomore Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) picked up an unassisted goal as he intercepted a pass and netted his own rebound past a diving goalie at 8:34. The final marker of the contest came with five minutes remaining. Arcieri dished the puck to senior Pat O'Kane (Hollis, N.H./Bishop Guertin) on another breakaway for the 5-1 final score.

Sophomore Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-Northampton) moves to 2-1-0 on the year as he stopped 37 shots as the Ice Dogs capitalzed on one of its eight power plays and took 27 shots.

Senior Jacob Rinn dips to 0-1-1 on a 22-save night. The Bison had six power play chances and scored on one as the team took a game-high 38 shots.

The Ice Dogs hit the rink next when the team plays host to Franklin Pierce on Nov. 16th. The game will start at 6:35 p.m. at the Buffone Ice Rink in Worcester, Mass.
