Worcester Mass. (November 16) -- The Ice Dogs tied Franklin Pierce, 4-4, at the Buffone Arena in the home opener on Wednesday night. Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) had a goal and an assist, and Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy) assisted two goals in the tie.
Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine/Brewster Academy) started the scoring on a pass from Pat O'Kane (Hollis, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and Larsen just 2:53 into the contest. Mattiello extended the lead to two with his third goal of the season in the first period with a goal off passes from Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass./Austin Prep) and freshman Joe Arcieri (New Market, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas).
Franklin Pierce cut into the lead in the second period on a goal Dino Federico, his fourth of the season off passes from Pat Shorte and Tyler Cornele.
Assumption again extended its lead to two when Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) collected his third goal of the season on a power play as Larson and Mattiello picked up assists. The Ravens collected a power play goal of their own three minutes later when Cornele found the back of the net off a pass from Brandan McCarron to conclude the scoring in the second period. The Ice Dogs took a 3-2 lead into the final period of play.
Jaime Vona (West Seneca, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) extended the Ice Dog lead to two for the third time in the game on his first goal of the season off assists from White and Mike Heyde (Natick, Mass./Natick) at the 11:45 mark in the final period, before the Ravens netted the final two goals of the period to force overtime. Adam Dallaire scored the tying goal with 14 seconds left in the game off passes from Tyler Cornele and Brandon Dennis.
Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-North) made 38 saves for the Ice Dogs, while Dave O'Brien notched 39 saves as the Ice Dogs hold a record of 2-3-1 and 0-0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens move to 0-3-2 and 0-0-1 in the Conference.
