Box Score

West Haven, Conn. (November 30) -- No. 17 ranked Assumption trailed by double digits in the first half before taking a two-point halftime lead and pulling away late in the game for a 76-68 victory at the University of New Haven to stay unbeaten on the season. The Hounds moved up five spots this week in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 National Poll.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Greyhounds shot just 28 percent from the field and trailed until the final seconds of the first half. Trailing just 6-5 after a layup from Sabrina Siciliano (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) with 13:54 left, the Chargers pushed the lead up to 10 at 17-7. Trailing by their largest deficit of the season, the Hounds chipped away at the lead and with 4:16 left trailed by a 21-18 margin after a layup from Tafanie Roye (New Britain, Conn./Capital Prep Magnet). Roye scored the next 10 points for the Hounds to end the half, including a layup with 7.6 seconds on the clock to give Assumption its first lead at 28-26.

Trailing 38-37 five minutes into the second, Roye scored on a fastbreak layup and then dropped a three-pointer to give the Hounds a four-point advantage that was eventually pushed to 43-38 with 13:05 remaining. Assumption extended the advantage to eight with 7:07 left following a three-pointer from Katy Howard (Medway, Mass./Medway) and a layup from Gabrielle Gibson (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague). The Hounds led by at least six points over the remainder of the game to win their sixth straight game to open the season.

Roye finished with a career-high 17 points, along with a 24-point effort from Howard and 13 points from Siciliano. Senior All-American candidate Kelly Meredith (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) finished the game with 15 points to move into a tie for ninth place on the Assumption all-time career scoring list with 1,218 points. Meredith also added 12 rebounds for the double-double.

With the win, Assumption now sits at 6-0 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the Chargers remain winless at 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, December 3rd as the Hounds play host to Adelphi University for a 1:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
