Marlborough, Mass. (November 5) -- The Ice Dogs notched their first win of the season against Stonehill, 5-2, behind a hat trick from senior Pat O'Kane (Hollis N.H./Bishop Guertin) in the consolation game of the Becker College Icebreaker Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the New England Sport Center in Marlborough.
The Hounds jumped out to a lead in the fourth minute, when O'Kane found the back of the net, assiusted by Jaime Vona (West Seneca, N.Y./Saint Francis) and Taylor Larsen (
Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy).
Ross White picked up a power play goal, assisted by Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) to make the score, 2-0, before O'Kane notched his second goal of the period, assisted by Larsen and Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), giving the Ice Dogs a 3-0 lead after the first period.
O'Kane notched his hat trick in the second minute of the second period on a six on four power play, giving the Ice Dogs a 4-0 lead, Mike Janson (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Larsen picked up assists.
Stonehill notched its first goal of the game on a power play in the 15th minute of the second period when Bryan Rooney beat Assumption goalie Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-Northampton) for his second goal of the season. Dana Borges assisted the goal.
Ken Pia (
Guilford, Conn./Xavier) added his first goal of the season in the third period to extend the Ice Dogs lead to 5-1, assisted by Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge)and Danny Dearing (Lisbon Falls, Maine/North Yarmouth).
The Skyhawks cut into the lead in the 11th minute of the final period when Borges beat Bowden, assisted by Pat Greene and Oliver Williams.
The Ice Dogs move to 1-3 on the season, while Stonehill falls to 0-3.
