Manchester, N.H. (December 3) -- Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) led the Ice Dogs to a 3-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University with a shorthanded goal in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Senior goaltender Nick Blanchette (Stuart, Fla./Worcester Academy) made 50 saves in the win, while Tyler Holske turned away 34 in the loss.
The Ice Dogs fell behind early when Charles Wisniewski scored an unassisted goal, his fourth of the season, just 2:43 into the game.
Assumption answered with a goal by Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), his first of the season, assisted by Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy) and Dave D'Amico (Johnston, R.I./LaSalle Academy) 6:07 into the first period.
Southern New Hampshire recaptured the lead with 8:48 remaining in the second period when Trevor Nelson scored an unassisted goal to give the Penmen a 2-1 lead.
The Ice Dogs knotted up the score again with 1:06 remaining in the second period as Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass./Austin Prep) scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Ryan Sargent (Barnstead, N.H./Prospect Mountain) and Larsen.
After a scoreless third period in which Blanchette turned away 13 shots, the game went to overtime, where White provided the heroics.
White took a pass from Mike Heyde (Natick, Mass./Natick) and beat Holske to propel the Ice Dogs to a 3-2 overtime victory.
Assumption moves to 6-5-1 overall while SNHU falls to 1-8-1 on the season.
The Ice Dogs will take a break until January 6th, when Assumption hosts the Worcester City Shootout. The Ice Dogs will take on Becker College at 5:30 p.m.
