New Haven, Conn. (October 16) -- Southern Connecticut jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first half as Assumption dropped a 5-0 final to the Owls on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Jess Dow Field.
Just 1:21 into the game, Southern Connecticut got on the board as Bailey McGinnis knocked in a rebound for her sixth goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. Just 55 seconds later, Allison Vilardi notched her fourth goal of the season as she tipped in a pass for the 2-0 advantage in favor of the Owls.
McGinnis added her second goal of the game at the 27:57 mark, followed by the 21 goal of the season from Sarah Cebry for a 4-0 SCSU lead at the half. Cebry's score came off a rebound following a penalty corner as the Owls held an 13-3 edge in corners in the period.
In the second half, SCSU's Cebry redirected a crossing pass for her second goal of the game and her 22nd of the season to account for the final score.
Sophomore Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) made 13 saves in the loss, while Audrey Doloff picked up the win with a 12-save effort for the Owls.
With the loss, Assumption is now 7-9 overall and 4-5 in Northeast-10 play, while Southern Connecticut improves to 7-8 overall and is at .500 in league play at 4-4.
The Hounds are back in action on Thursday evening as the team travels to UMass Lowell for a non-conference game starting at 7 p.m. Assumption closes out the regular season at home on Saturday, October 20 as Franklin Pierce visits the Multi-Sport Stadium for a Noon start.
