Box Score Worcester, Mass. (October 23) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 final to Southern Conn. State University at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Prior to the game, the team honored its senior class for their contributions to the team. Those being
honored were Dan Davis (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury), Dom Mondi (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody), Guga Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Dennis-Yarmouth), Matt Wrenn (Windham, N.H. / Tilton School), and Tom Carroll (Belford, N.J. / Middletown North).
The Greyhounds fell behind late in the first half on an own goal.
Assumption tied the score in the 82nd minute as Max Roche (Medway, Mass. / Medway) took a thrown in deep in the Owl side of the field. Kieran Hillery (Smithfield, R.I. / Smithfield) finished the play for his first goal of the season.
A little over a minute later, SCSU took the lead back on a goal by Daquan King.
The Greyhounds had chances to tie the score up in the final minutes but could not convert. Overall, Assumption outshot the Owls, 11-8, but could only put three of those shots on net.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 4-8-2 on the season, and 3-7-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while SCSU improves to 8-5-1 and 6-5-1 in league play.
The Greyhounds will close out the regular season at Saint Michael's College on Friday, Oct. 26. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Michael's.
