Box Score Worcester, Mass. (October 6) -- The Assumption College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 final to Stonehill College at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Assumption goalkeeper Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional) made nine saves while taking the loss, as Assumption falls to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Stonehill improves to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
The Skyhawks got on the board first as Emily Sideris found Erika Kelly at the 17:36 mark in the first half, to put Stonehill up heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Assumption found its tempo and knotted up the score on a goal by Mary O'Neil (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith), assisted by Bethany Rocha (Lakeville, Mass. / Bishop Stang).
Tied at one with 10 minutes left to play, Stonehill broke through against Neilan, as Kelsey Davis scored off a penalty corner, giving Stonehill at 2-1 lead at the 61:44 mark in the game.
The Greyhounds return to action on Oct. 13 as the team travels to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley University. The game will begin at 10 a.m. in Waltham.
