Worcester, Mass. (November 1) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team dropped an 8-1 final in non-conference play to Nichols College at the Buffone Arena on Wednesday night.
The Greyhounds allowed four first period goals, as Greg Strootman scored twice. Paul Prescott and Daniel Bufis each added a goal for the Bison on the way to a 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Trailing 6-0 heading into the final period, Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) got the Greyhounds on the board with assists from Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine / Brewster Academy) and Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass. / New Hampton) at the 1:47 mark in the third period.
Following the Mattiello goal, Strootman added a third period goal for a hat trick, while Bufis also scored in the third for his second goal of the game.
The Greyhounds fall to 1-2 on the season, while Nichols improves to 1-0. The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 3 as the team will take on Suffolk. The game will start at 6:55 p.m. at the Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Mass.
