Box Score Waltham, Mass. (November 10) -- Assumption jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead, but was unable to hold off Bentley as the No. 3 seeded Falcons defeated the No. 6 seeded Greyhounds by a 20-13 final on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Championship Weekend action.
Assumption struck first for the eighth time this season as sophomore Eddy Frazier (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) hauled in a 54-yard touchdown pass from junior Bobby Jordan (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) as he fought off a pair of Bentley tacklers and found the end zone. The touchdown for Frazier was his fourth of the season and marks his third straight game with a score.
The Assumption defense forced four turnovers in the first half with a fumble recovery, an interception and a pair of stops on fourth down.
The Hounds closed out the first half scoring with 54 seconds remaining as junior Rob Handy (Freehold, N.J./Howell) pulled down a 10-yard touchdown across the middle for his first touchdown on the season and the 13-0 halftime lead.
On the first Bentley drive of the second half, the Hounds downed a punt inside the five-yard line and nearly sacked Bentley quarterback Danny Guadagnoli on second down. The Falcons escaped though and used a 41-yard reception by Bobby Tarr to drive into Assumption territory. The Hounds ended that drive though, thanks to a third-down sack from Raheem Kelly-Reid (Springfield, Mass./Chicopee) and Bentley was forced to punt.
After an Assumption punt, Bentley's Guadagnoli found Jeff Hill for a 38-yard reception to move the Falcons into Assumption territory. Two plays later, Guadagnoli found Hill again for a 28-yard touchdown to close the margin down to 13-7 after three quarters of play.
Bentley took its first lead of the game with 8:24 left in the fourth as Tarr caught a screen pass on a third down and long situation near midfield and took the pass 54 yards for the 14-13 edge. The Falcons added a 42-yard touchdown reception by Bill Kiley with 2:50 remaining to account for the 20-13 final.
Jordan finished the game with 228 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Frazier was the top receiver with three receptions for 81 yards. Senior Nick Bolio (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) was the leading rusher for Assumption with 52 yards.
With the loss, Assumption ends the season at 3-7 overall, while Bentley ends on a three-game winning streak and at 8-2 overall.
