Worcester, Mass. (November 25) -- On Sunday afternoon, the Assumption College women's basketball team opened its home schedule with a convincing 77-51 victory over visiting Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action. Both teams are receiving votes in this week's ESPN/USA Today Division II National Poll.

Assumption led from the outset as junior Tafanie Roye (New Britain, Conn./Central Prep Magnet) opened the scoring with the first of her two three-pointers on the day. The Hounds led by a 15-14 margin with 11:35 left in the opening half before an 11-0 Assumption run made it a double-digit game at 26-14 with six minutes on the clock. Keying the run was another Roye three, along with three-pointers from senior Katy Howard (Medway, Mass./Medway) and junior Shannon Ray (Yonkers, N.Y./Ursuline Academy). Assumption led by as many as 15 points in the period before taking the 39-26 lead into the break.

An 11-4 Assumption started the second half to push the lead up to 20 and put the game comfortably out of reach. Over the final minutes of play, Assumption led by at least 17 points and by as many as 29 as the Hounds remain one of just five unbeaten teams in the Northeast-10.

Howard led four Hounds in double figures with 17 points as she shot 7-for-10 from the field while adding two assists and three steals. Roye finished with 10 points, along with 12 points from senior Sabrina Siciliano (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) and 10 points from junior Jamie Insel (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees). For the game, every Assumption player tallied at least one point in the balanced scoring effort.

Assumption outscored the Setters by a 17-7 margin at the free throw line and forced 21 Pace turnovers to key the victory.

Graduate student Brittany Shields was the lone Pace player in double figures with 10 points on just 4-for-13 shooting from the field.

With the win, the Hounds improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast-10, while Pace falls to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, November 28th as the Hounds host the University of New Haven for a 5:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
