Framingham, Mass. (December 1) -- Senior Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass./New Hampton)
netted the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Framingham State University on Saturday night in non-conference action at Loring Arena.
Sophomore Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine/Brewster Academy) recorded two assists on the night, accounting for a point on each goal, as the Greyhounds improve to 2-10 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-6.
Assumption got on the board first with a power play goal late in the first period. Freshman Trevor Loiseau (South Grafton, Mass./Hudson) fired a shot from the point that FSU goalkeeper Dale Adams saved. Shaw was there to tip the rebound to junior Jon Baldwin (Malden, Mass./ Saint Mary's) and Baldwin slipped it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 16:45 mark.
The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the Greyhounds until midway through the second when Daniel Miressi sent a shot on net that sophomore Ryan McDonald deflected under the Greyhound goalkeeper, the only goal freshman Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn./Worcester Academy) would allow on the evening.
Assumption would take the lead for good just under six minutes into the third on their second power play goal of the game. Sophomore Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass./Mount Saint Charles) sent a crossing pass to Zobler on the right side and snapped a shot into the corner for the game winner and his second of the season.
The Rams could not find the back of the net down the stretch, but their best chance came with just under six minutes remaining in the game when Miressi carried the puck into the offensive zone, made a move and slapped a shot on net. Hemhauser came up with the big save to preserve the win.
The Rams outshot the Greyhounds 43-36 in the game including a 19-4 edge in the second period, but Hemhauser made 42 saves and recorded the victory between the pipes. Adams finished the game with 34 saves for the Rams but was tagged with the loss.
Greyhounds return to action as they play host to Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday Dec. 4 at 6:05 p.m.
