Worcester, Mass. (December 4) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team played to a 3-3 overtime tie against Southern New Hampshire University at the Buffone Arena on Tuesday evening.
Southern New Hampshire got on the board first with a quick first period goal by Mike Rotondi. The goal came at the 16:23 mark in the first period. The Greyhounds answered back with a goal by Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine/Brewster), who took a pass from Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass. / Mount St. Charles), and finished to tie up the game.
The Penmen carried a 2-1 lead into the second on an unassisted goal by Dane Caracino with 11:59 to play in the first period.
After a scoreless second period, SNHU extended its lead to two with a power play goal by Joe Collins less than three minutes into the period. Jim Gabrione and Caracino had assists on the goal.
The Greyhounds started the comeback with a power play goal by Jon Baldwin at the 7:26 mark in the third period Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass. / Austin Prep) and Trevor Loiseau (South Grafton, Mass. / Hudson) each helped assist the goal.
Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) had the game-tying goal with 4:24 left to play in the game off a helper by Meehan, his second of the game.
Following the Greyhound goal, SNHU had an odd man rush, but Ben Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / Worcester Academy) made a great play to end the scoring chance.
Freshman Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn./Worcester Academy) made 43 saves for Assumption, while Tyler Holske made 27 saves for the Penmen.
The Greyhounds move to 2-10-1 on the season, while SNHU goes to 2-4-2 overall. Assumption will return to action on Jan. 5 against Becker College at the DoubleTree Ice Hockey Classic in Colchester, Vt. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
