Albany, N.Y. (December 5) -- On Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action, the Assumption women's basketball team got back in the win column with a 71-63 road win at the College of Saint Rose. Assumption is receiving votes in this week's USA Today Sports Division II National Top 25 Poll.

Assumption jumped out to a 16-10 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half before a three-point play and a Saint Rose three-pointer from Tyler Hansen tied the game at 16-16 with 9:17 on the clock. The two teams went back and forth and were tied again at 26-26 with 4:50 left in the half before Assumption closed the period on a 9-5 run to take the 35-31 lead into the halftime break. Senior Gabrielle Gibson (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) led the team with nine points in the half, knocking down a pair of three-pointers. The Hounds shot 56 percent from the field in the period, while each team committed 11 turnovers.

The second half began the same way the first half ended as back-to-back hoops from Gibson and senior Sabrina Siciliano (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) made it a 39-31 game just 50 seconds into the period. Assumption stretched the lead up to 12 at 45-33 at the 15:20 mark before a 7-0 Saint Rose run, capped by a three from Mariah Lesure, closed the Golden Knights to within five at 45-40 with 13:10 remaining.

Saint Rose twice closed back to within two midway thru the half before Assumption stretched the lead back out to eight at 58-50. The Golden Knights got the lead back to four on a Nicole Bini three with 4:14 remaining before the Hounds held on for the eight-point victory.

Gibson led the Hounds with 18 points, along with 13 points from Siciliano, 12 from senior Katy Howard (Medway, Mass./Medway) and 10 points from junior Shannon Ray (Yonkers, N.Y./Ursuline Academy).

Bini led two Golden Knights in double figures with a 19-point outing.

With the win, the Hounds improve to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Northeast-10 play, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-5 overall and remain winless in the league at 0-5.

Assumption is back in action on Monday, December 17 as the Hounds play host to Le Moyne College for a 5:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
