Worcester, Mass. (September 20) -- Assumption snapped a seven-game losing streak vs. American International dating back to 2007 as the Hounds defeated the visiting Yellow Jackets by a 3-2 final on Thursday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hounds remain atop the league standings with a 3-0 conference mark and stand at 4-4-1 overall.

Assumption came out firing and just 4:29 into the first half, sophomore Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) put home a rebound for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes late, freshman Maria Beatrice (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) put home a rebound of her own for her fifth goal in as many games and the Hounds led 2-0 eight minutes in.

In the 12th minute, Anderson found the back of the net again as she took a crossing pass from freshman Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, Mass./St. Mary Academy) and put home the backhanded shot for the 3-0 advantage. In the first half, the Hounds outshot AIC 9-6 and took the 3-0 edge into the halftime break.

The Yellow Jackets were the team that came out hard in the second half and with 51:47 gone, Erica McLean scored off a penalty corner as she put the shot just inside the left post to make it a 3-1 game. Leading scorer Lisa Duckles pulled the Yellow Jackets within a 3-2 margin just under seven minutes later, but that was as close as the visitors would get as Assumption ran its unbeaten streak to five games.

Sophomore Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) made four saves in the win, while Kori Huffman turned aside eight shots in the loss.

With 19 goals thus far in 2012, Assumption is just one goal shy of equaling the goal scoring from the last two seasons combined. In addition, all 19 goals have come off the sticks of either freshmen or sophomores.

With the loss, AIC falls to 1-7 overall and is 0-1 in Northeast-10 play.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, September 22nd as the Hounds host No. 4 ranked UMass Lowell for a 1 p.m. start at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

UPDATE: The Assumption/Bentley game that was suspended back on September 18th due to a power outage will be completed on Friday, September 28 at 5:45 p.m. at Assumption. The game was tied at 1-1, with the second overtime period about to begin.
