Greyhounds Drop Stonehill by 5-1 Final

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (September 25) -- Senior Dom Mondi (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody) netted his first career hat trick. Junior Jose Paulo (Sao Paulo, Brazil / LaSalle Academy) tied a school record with four assists as the Greyhounds defeated Stonehill College, 5-1, at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Tuesday night.

Junior Michael Agbortoko (Beau, Cameroon / Southbridge) added two goals for Assumption in the victory, while freshman Dana King (Windham, Maine/Windham) posted his third victory of the season in 73:50 of playing time.

The Greyhounds got on the board first as Mondi headed home a corner by Paulo at the 20:51 mark in the game. Mondi added his second goal 90 seconds later as he rolled a shot past the Skyhawk keeper to extend the Greyhound lead to two.

Agortoko joined in on the scoring with a header of his own off another Paulo corner, pushing the Greyhound lead to three at halftime.

Coming out of the half, Mondi wasted no time getting his hat trick, posting his third goal coming at the 50:58 mark in the game off another pass from Paulo. Mondi becomes the 28th Greyhounds to record a hat trick.

Stonehill got into the scoring action with a goal of their own coming off a set piece at the 53:51 mark in the game.

Paulo got his record-tying fourth assist as he played the ball off a foul onto the foot of a sliding Agbortoko, who beat the Stonehill keeper for his second goal of the game. Paulo matches a record most recently done by Jeffrey Swan '11 against Queens on Aug. 26, 2007.

A Greyhound has only achieved four assists one other time in a game, when Mark Bisol '80 recorded four assists against Merrimack in 1977.

King allowed one goal over 73:50 of action before giving way to sophomore Dylan Strachan (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield Warde), who finished out the game without allowing a goal.

King improves to 3-4 on the season, as Assumption improves its overall record to 3-4 as well, including a 2-3 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 30 to take on American International College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
