Box Score Worcester, Mass. (September 30) -- The Assumption College men's soccer clawed back to force a 2-2 tie against American International College after trailing by two goals early in the second half at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Michael Agbortoko (Beau, Cameroon/Southbridge) scored the game-tying goal on an assist by Lucas Spina (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston) with 23:24 remaining in regulation.
The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 at the 33:20 mark in the first half on a goal by Ed Sharman, assisted by Conor Doyle.
Coming out of halftime, that combination struck for a second goal at the 49:18 mark, extending the Yellow Jacket lead to two.
The Greyhounds started to chip away as Jose Paulo (Sao Paulo, Brazil / LaSalle Academy) found the back of the net with 30:58 remaining in regulation, followed by the goal by Agbortoko, which would eventually send the game into overtime.
After two scoreless overtime periods, the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Freshman Dana King (Windham, Maine/Windham) made two saves, while the Greyhounds move to 3-4-1, and 2-3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. AIC moves to 3-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Southern New Hampshire University. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
