Worcester, Mass. (September 4) -- On a rainy Tuesday evening, the Assumption College field hockey team dropped a back-and-forth 4-3 final to visiting Southern Connecticut in non-conference play at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Hounds got things started just 2:50 into the first half as sophomore Abigail Heroth (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) tallied her first career goal to put the Hounds up 1-0. Southern Connecticut answered though just over 13 minutes later as Sarah Cebry tallied her second goal of the season to knot the game up at 1-1.

Assumption sophomore Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) continued her hot start to the season as she scored her third goal in as many games to put the Hounds back in front at 2-1 with 9:53 left in the first half. The Owls tied the game for a second time though as Bailey McGinnis scored off an assist from Cebry to send the game into the half tied at 2-2.

Southern took its first lead of the game early in the second half as Laurie Cockerline tallied her first goal of the season just over six minutes into the period. After some back-and-forth play and chances by both teams over the next 18 minutes, freshman Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) tallied her first career goal to tie the game for the final time with 10:30 left.

The Owls spoiled the night for the Hounds with just 3:53 left as Cebry scored her second goal of the game to account for the 4-3 final.

Sophomore Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) was in goal again for the Hounds, making 16 saves in the loss. Freshman Audrey Dolloff made 11 saves for the Owls as she has played in all three games so far this season.

Assumption drops to 0-3 overall on the season, while Southern Connecticut now sits at 1-2 overall.

Assumption is back in action on Thursday evening as the Hounds travel to Franklin Pierce for a non-conference game beginning at 6 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
