Box Score Worcester, Mass. (September 8) -- Trailing by a 2-1 margin with just over 15 minutes left, the Assumption College field hockey team used two late goals to rally past visiting Adelphi University for a 3-2 home win over the Panthers in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams.
Freshman Maria Beatrice (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) tallied her first career goal midway thru the first half to put the Hounds in front 1-0. After a quick shot, Beatrice corralled the rebound and beat Adelphi goalie Kristine Puzio for the goal. The Hounds took that lead into the halftime break and outshot the Panthers 12-3 in the period.
Emilee Rahner tied the game for the Panthers at the 47:06 mark as she scored from the top of the circle off a penalty corner. Molly Cuevas added another goal almost eight minutes later and the visitors had all the momentum at 2-1 with 15 minutes left on the clock.
A pair of freshmen led the Hounds to victory over the final nine minutes as Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) got things going with her first career goal to tie the game at 2-2 with 8:41 left. Frahm took a pass from sophomore Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and blasted a shot from the top of the circle for the score. Freshman Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./Saint Mary Academy) scored the game winner with just 3:31 left as she scored on a backhander from about five yards out for her second goal of the season and first career game winner.
Sophomore goalie Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) made four saves as she picked up her first career victory. Puzio and Kelly Serrao combined for 18 saves in the game as Serrao took the loss for the Panthers.
Assumption improves to 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi remains winless at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the league.
The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, September 8 as Saint Anselm visits the Multi-Sport Stadium for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup.
