Worcester, Mass. (January 19) -- Led by a 14-point effort from Gabrielle Gibson (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague), the Assumption College women's basketball team rolled to a 57-44 victory over visiting Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Laska Gym. The win marks the 200th Northeast-10 Conference victory for Assumption College head coach Kerry Phayre.
Saint Anselm jumped out to a quick 11-6 lead over the opening 4:12, capped by a pair of free throws from Krista O'Gara. Assumption quickly took control though with a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to seize a 20-14 lead just past the midway point of the period. The Hawks cut the lead back down to one with 6:36 before a 12-0 Assumption run to end the half sent the game into the break at 34-21 in favor of the Hounds.
In the second, Assumption led by as many as 22 points before coming away with the 13-point victory. The Hounds held Saint Anselm to 34.9 percent shooting from the field and forced 23 turnovers in the win.
Gibson led the Hounds with 14 points, along with 13 points and seven rebounds from senior Sabrina Siciliano (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde). Briana Jones was the lone Hawk in double figures with a 10-point effort.
With the win, the Hounds improve to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in Northeast-10 play, while the Hawks drop their sixth straight to fall to 4-11 overall and just 1-10 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, January 23rd as the Hounds host Franklin Pierce University for a 5:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
