Manchester, N.H. (October 11) -- Led by a two-touchdown performance from both senior Matt Pedone (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and junior Matt Heriveaux (Everett, Mass./Malden Catholic), the Assumption College football team picked up its third road victory of the season with a 41-27 win over Saint Anselm on Friday night at Grappone Stadium. The win is the ninth straight in the series for Assumption as the Hounds now hold a 10-5 edge overall over the Hawks.

After a scoreless first quarter, Saint Anselm got on the board first on the opening play of the second period as Keith Charles scored from one yard out up the middle for a 7-0 Hawk lead with 14:56 left in the first half.

On the ensuing drive, the Hounds got into the red zone for the first time on a 30-yard rush up the middle from Pedone to the 10-yard line. Heriveaux ran the Hounds down to the one yard line on second down, followed by a touchdown on third down to tie the game at 7-7 with 11:54 on the clock. The Heriveaux touchdown capped a seven-play, 79-yard drive that covered just over four minutes.

Assumption took the lead with 8:09 left in the second as Pedone burst up the middle and cut to the far sideline, outrunning the Hawks defense for a 59-yard score and the 14-7 lead. The Hounds got the ball back with over five minutes left in the period as junior Derrick Mann (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) picked off Andrew Murphy and returned the interception to the Saint Anselm 38-yard line. Assumption converted the turnover into points with 2:48 left in the opening half as senior Tad Beuchert (Danvers, Mass./St. John's Prep) converted a 23-yard field goal for the 17-7 advantage.

Saint Anselm got right back on the board though as Murphy found Charles from 14 yards out for the touchdown reception. Charles pulled the ball down near the five yard line and lunged just inside the pylon to cut the Hounds lead to 17-14 with just 53 seconds left in the first half.

On the ensuing kickoff, Assumption's James Ward (New Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) fielded the ball at 11-yard line and cut up the middle, leaping the Saint Anselm kicker around the 30-yard line and outrunning the coverage for the 24-14 lead with 38 seconds left in the half. The kickoff return for touchdown was the 11th in school history and first since 2007, which also took place at Saint Anselm.

Assumption got on the board just 5:04 into the third quarter as Pedone pulled down a screen pass and took the ball 28 yards for his second touchdown of the game and a 31-14 lead. Heriveaux extended the lead out to 38-14 with 7:45 left in third as he rushed straight up the middle from 10 yards out for his second touchdown of the game.

Late in the third, Beuchert connected on his second field goal of the game as drilled a Northeast-10 season-best 48-yard field goal with just 32 seconds left in the period for the 41-14 advantage after three periods.

Saint Anselm got on the board with 12:13 remaining as Joe Hayman scored from two yards out to cut the lead back to 41-20. The Hawks added a late touchdown with just 1:22 left as Justin Bernard pulled down a Murphy pass in the back of the end zone to account for the 41-27 final.

Pedone led the rushing attack with his second 100-yard rushing game of the season, finishing with 102 yards on 13 carries. Senior quarterback Bobby Jordan (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) completed 13-of-24 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown, while senior Scott Simonson (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) had five catches for a team-best 79 yards. Defensively, seniors Matt Colangelo (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) and Mike Bates (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) led the Hounds with 13 tackles each.

With the win, Assumption improves to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Anselm remains winless at 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, October 19th as the Hounds host Southern Connecticut for a Homecoming start beginning at 6 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
