Colchester, Vt. (October 12) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 overtime final at Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hounds took a 1-0 lead into the game's final minutes before the Purple Knights forced the extra period of play.

Junior Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) staked the Hounds to a 1-0 first-half lead as she tallied her fifth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem). Frahm created the scoring opportunity as she possessed the ball thru the Purple Knights defense before finding Anderson on the right side as she tied for the team lead with her fifth goal.

The score stayed that way until the 63:04 mark as the Hounds had withstood a number of penalty corner opportunities from Saint Michael's. The Purple Knights did get on the board though as Megan Deschaine put home a rebound for her fifth goal of the year, sending the game into the extra session tied at 1-1.

In overtime, the Purple Knights notched the game winner off a penalty corner nearly six minutes into the extra period as Morgan Mazanec stuffed home her third goal of the season on a scramble in front of the net to lift the hosts to the 2-1 final.

Senior Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) turned aside six shots in the loss, while Sarah Healey had four saves for the Purple Knights in the victory.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Michael's improves to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, October 15th as the Hounds travel to Southern Connecticut for a 7 p.m. start at Jess Dow Field.
