Box Score New Haven, Conn. (October 15) -- On Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play, the Assumption College field hockey team dropped a 3-2 final to Southern Connecticut at Jess Dow Field.
The Owls got on the board just 1:42 into the game as Jaime Matson scored her sixth goal of the season off a rebound following a penalty corner. Assumption notched the equalizer just minutes later as senior Stacia Tympanick (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) converted a penalty corner off an assist from sophomore Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) as her shot went between the goalie's legs for the 1-1 score.
The scoring flurry continued as Matson put the Owls back in front just 9:54 into the first half as she tipped a shot over the shoulder of Assumption junior goalie Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) for the 2-1 lead following another penalty corner. The Hounds struck right back though at the midway point of the period as sophomore Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) tipped in a long pass from the right from sophomore Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) to send the game into the half tied at 2-2.
Southern Connecticut scored the eventual game winner at the 54:21 mark as Sarah Cebry tallied her eighth goal of the season for the 3-2 final margin. Assumption outshot the Owls by a 25-15 margin in the game, while the Owls held a 14-8 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
Neilan made five saves for the Hounds in the loss, while SCSU goalie Aubrey Dolloff had 12 stops while picking up the win.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the Northeast-10, while SCSU is now 3-9 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Thursday, October 17th as the Hounds travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
