Box Score Worcester, Mass. (October 16) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 final to the College of Saint Rose at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Golden Knights put away a goal with 17 seconds remaining off a rebound as senior Juan Garzon notched the winning goal for Saint Rose.
Assumption controlled the tempo for most of the game, holding a heavy advantage in shots and scoring chances, especially in the first half. Going into the break, Assumption held a 13-4 lead in total shots and had put eight shots on net while Saint Rose had attempted two.
The play leveled out a little bit in the second half as the final shot tally went 20-10 in favor of the Greyhounds, but after more than 89 minutes of scoreless soccer, Saint Rose broke through in the closing seconds of regulation.
Sophomore Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham) made six saves for the Greyhounds, including several spectacular saves to keep the game scoreless throughout the night, while Colan Balkwell made 10 saves in a shutout for Saint Rose.
Assumption falls to 2-5-2 with the loss and is now 0-6-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play while Saint Rose improves to 5-7-0 overall and sits at 2-6-0 in league play.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th against Southern New Hampshire University. The game will begin at noon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
