Box Score Easton, Mass. (October 4) -- On Friday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play, the Assumption College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 final to No. 4 ranked Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium.
The Skyhawks got on the board at the 22:19 mark of the opening period as Lauren Giordano intercepted a clearing pass and scored one-on-one for the 1-0 edge. Giordano made it a 2-0 margin just 2:14 later as she tipped in a shot from Devin Ingersoll for the two-goal lead at the break.
Assumption cut the lead in half just 3:50 into the second half as freshman Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) tied for the team lead with her fifth goal of the season. Stonehill's Ericka Kelley accounted for the 3-1 final at the 46:54 mark though as the Skyhawks remained perfect on the season.
Stonehill held a 10-5 edge in penalty corners in the game, along with a slight 13-9 edge in overall shots.
Senior goalie Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made two saves in the loss, while Elizabeth Genovese turned aside six shots in the win.
Assumption falls to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the Northeast-10 with the loss, while Stonehill improves to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Hounds are back in action on Saturday, October 12th as the team travels to Saint Michael's for a Northeast-10 game beginning at 1 p.m.
