Worcester, Mass. (November 26) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 final to Johnson and Wales University at the Charles J. Buffone Arena in the Greyhounds home opener on Tuesday evening.

Senior Ross White (Uxbridge, Mass. / Uxbridge) scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds in the loss to JWU, a third period goal.

The Wildcats struck first with two first period goals to give Johnson and Wales an early advantage. Cody Sarmiento had the first goal, a power play marker following an interference penalty by Matt Calos (North Reading, Mass. / North Reading). The goal came at the 4:04 mark in the first period.

Freshman Drew Kariofiles added the second goal of the period for the Wildcats, an even strength goal with 89 seconds to play in the period.

After a scoreless second period, White cut the Greyhound deficit in half with a power play goal at the 19:18 mark in the third period.

Senior Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass. / Williston-Northampton) made 34 saves in the loss for the Greyhounds while Joey Ballmer made 28 saves while allowing the lone goal for JWU.

Assumption falls to 1-5-1 on the season while Johnson and Wales improves to 5-3 with the win.

The Greyhounds are back in action on November 30th at the Worcester City Ice Hockey Championship hosted by Worcester State University. The first game will be against Becker College at 7:30 p.m. at the Horgan Rink in Auburn, Mass.
