Worcester, Mass. (November 3) -- On Senior Day on Sunday afternoon, the Assumption College field hockey team came away with a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Saint Anselm College at the Multi-Sport Stadium. This marks the second straight season that the Hounds have come out with a victory on Senior Day.

Prior to the start of today's game, the Hounds honored seniors Bethany Rocha (Lakeville, Mass./Bishop Stang), Stacia Tympanick (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville), Cat Hartford (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk), Kylie Zurn (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth), Sadie Oliver (Mount Vernon, N.H./Souhegan) and Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) for their contributions to the Assumption College field hockey program during their careers.

The Hounds struck early on just 2:18 in as Rocha scored off a pass from junior Abigail Heroth (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) following an Assumption penalty corner. Assumption added to its lead with 9:06 left in the first half as sophomore Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) scored off a rebound following a shot from freshman Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name). The goal was her fifth of the season and the Hounds took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Assumption kept the pressure up throughout the second half and struck for an insurance goal with just 1:20 left as freshman Megan Eccleston (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) tallied her first career goal off a rebound at the left post to account for the 3-0 final.

The Hounds held a commanding 17-4 advantage in shots for the game, along with an 8-1 edge in penalty corners that limited the solid offensive opportunities for the Hawks.

Philbrick made one save in her final game for Assumption, improving to 7-9 on the season. Saint Anselm goalie Katherine Sears had five stops as she fell to 3-6 on the season.

With the win, the Hounds complete the season at 7-11 overall and 3-7 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Anselm drops to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in the league as the Hawks miss the Northeast-10 playoffs with the loss.
