Auburn, Mass. (February 12) -- The Assumption College ice hockey team defeated Worcester State University, 2-1, at the Horgan Rink in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
The Greyhounds improve to 7-15-2 on the season, while Worcester State falls to 6-14-2 with the loss.
Senior Keven Meehan (Melrose, Mass. / Austin Prep) provided the game-winning goal at the 6:56 mark in the third period off assists by Mike Heyde (Natick, Mass. / Natick) and Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass. / New Hampton).
After a scoreless first period, the Lancers got on the board first as RJ Byrne scored his first tally of the season less than five minutes into the second period.
The Greyhounds answered with 27 seconds to play in the period as Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass. / Mt. St. Charles) scored his seventh goal of the season coming off helpers by Trevor Loiseau (South Grafton, Mass. / Hudson) and Matt Dalton (Medway, Mass. / Catholic Memorial), setting up Meehan's goal.
Freshman Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Worcester Academy) came off the bench to earn his second win to improve to 2-2-1 on the season.
The Greyhounds will conclude their season in a matchup with Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College on Saturday, February 16. Assumption will honor its senior class with a ceremony prior to the game, and the puck will drop at 5:30 p.m. at the Buffone Arena in Worcester, Mass.
