Box Score Manchester, N.H. (September 14) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 final to Saint Anselm College at Melucci Field on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the Catholic Cup final from last Saturday. The game also marked the Northeast-10 Conference season opener for each team.
The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first 15 minutes as Ian Theriault provided his first goal of the season. Saint Anselm carried that lead into halftime as neither team attempted a shot for the remainder of the half following the goal.
Saint Anselm extended the lead to two coming out of halftime with a goal in the 60th minute by Drew Cooper found the back of the net for the Hawks.
Saint Anselm out shot Assumption, 7-6, while each team attempted a single corner kick.
Sophomore Dana King (Windham, Maine / Windham) made a two saves while taking the loss for Assumption while Mark Kotsopoulos picked up five saves to earn his second victory of the season.
The Greyhounds fall to 2-1-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play while Saint Anselm improves to 2-1-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in league action.
