Worcester, Mass. (September 16) -- In non-conference action on Monday night, the Assumption College field hockey team won its second straight game with a 5-0 shutout victory over Mercy College at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The meeting is the second all-time with Mercy, which is in its fourth season as a varsity program. Assumption took the first-ever meeting between the two teams by a 7-3 final last season in New York.

The Hounds jumped on the board just 4:40 in as freshman Megan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) tallied her fourth goal of the season on a backhanded shot that she lifted into the upper corner for the 1-0 lead. Junior Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) extended the lead up to 2-0 at the 29:02 mark as she put home a rebound off the initial shot from sophomore Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) for her second goal of the year. Anderson added another just 1:29 later to put Assumption in front by a 3-0 margin heading into the halftime break. The Hounds held an 8-0 edge in shots on goal in the half.

Colucci picked up her team-leading fourth goal of the season just 4:15 into the second half as she put home a rebound off a shot from junior Allie Richard (Fitchburg, Mass./Leominster) for the 4-0 lead. Freshman Andrea Koslowski (Warren, Mass./Quaboag Regional) added her first career goal as she tipped in a shot just 56 seconds later for the 5-0 margin.

Senior goalie Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made two saves in the victory, including a spectacular stick save late in the game to preserve the shutout. Mercy goalies Kristen Znaniecki and Jacque Tworkowski combined for eight stops in the loss.

With the win, the Hounds improve their record to 3-2 overall, while the Mavericks remain winless at 0-5 on the season.

Assumption is back in action on Thursday, September 19th as the Hounds travel to Bentley University for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
