Box Score Springfield, Mass. (September 24) -- The Assumption College men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie against American International College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday evening.
The Greyhounds for on the board in the second minute as senior Michael Agbortoko (Buea, Cameroon / Southbridge) got Assumption on the board at the 95-second mark in the first half. The goal was the senior defenders second in as many games. Sophomore Glen Libassi (North Scituate, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) assisted on the goal.
The Yellow Jackets responded with a goal of their own in the sixth minute as Ed Sharman scored a marker to level the score at one. After the offensive fireworks to start the game, the teams played even for the final 104 minutes as the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore Ben Jones (North Kingston, R.I. / North Kingston) made six saves while allowing one goal for Assumption, while Jason Ryan made nine saves while allowing the one goal for the Yellow Jackets. AIC outshot the Greyhounds, 15-13, while Assumption held a slight edge in corners, 6-4.
The Greyhounds move to 2-2-2 on the season and 0-2-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets move to move to 2-3-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in league play.
Assumption is back in action on September 28th as the Greyhounds will travel to Rindge, N.H. for a Northeast-10 Conference match against Franklin Pierce University. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
