Box Score Manchester, N.H. (September 25) -- Assumption jumped on top by a 2-0 margin early in the first half and never let up, en route to a 2-0 shutout win on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Grappone Stadium. The game is the final non-conference contest of the season for the Hounds, who begin conference play on Saturday.
The Hounds got on the board 11:09 into the game as sophomore Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H./Salem) found junior Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) for her fourth goal of the season. Assumption struck again just 1:35 later as a shot from Frahm was collected by Anderson, who passed it to sophomore Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) for the 2-0 lead. The goal was her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Assumption held a commanding 9-2 edge in penalty corners in the first half, leading to a 10-4 edge in shots for the period.
Senior Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made two saves in the win, while sophomore Shauna Whittemore turned aside 10 shots in the loss. Assumption junior Allison Juneau (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) also made three defensive saves in the game, including a pair of spectacular back-to-back stops off a corner in the first half.
For the game, Assumption held an 18-2 advantage in penalty corners and outshot the Hawks by an 18-6 margin.
With the win, Assumption evens its record at 4-4 overall, while Saint Anselm falls to 2-4 on the season.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, September 28 as the Hounds host Bentley University for a 1 p.m. start.
